Salma Hayek got her big breakthrough in Hollywood through a part in the film of Robert Rodriguez Desperado and then climbed to the top of Hollywood through her Oscar Award-nominated performance in Frida. Hayek was also involved with television, as director of Ugly Betty and other hit programs. When she was in Mexico City she briefly attended university, but quit in order to focus on acting. She eventually became the star of Mexican telenovelas.
